Swim Wales Learn to Swim Framework Guide.
Splash 1
Our entry level for swimmers aged 3 and over. We will teach the swimmers safe entry and exits and start the water confidence journey.
Splash 2
Swimmers will start to move more independently learning to float, rotate and pushing off the wall with good body position.
Splash 3
Swimmers will learn to submerge the face in the water as well as developing the correct leg action on front and back.
Splash 4
Swimmers are now moving in a good horizontal position with correct leg action and are developing a greater streamline position from pushing off the wall.
Splash 5
Swimmers begin swimming further distances and start to jump in. We also teach full body rotation from a front and back position. Swimmers also practise rhythmical breathing swimming with faces in the water.
Splash 6
Swimmers refine all water fundamentals in preparation to move to the wave programme. On completion swimmers will be lying in a flat, horizontal body position on front and back. Will be kicking with long legs and floppy feet. They have also established the aquatic breathing technique.
Wave 1
Having developed the fundamentals in Splash swimmers begin swimming with less aids and swim with an over arm action on front and back and begin to learn to float unaided.
Wave 2
Swimmers begin to master floating and swimming unaided and begin enhancing the breast stroke and butterfly stroke as well. We also start teaching a series of sculling actions to enhance swimmers feel of the water.
Wave 3
Swimmers are now swimming unaided. We begin teaching the breathing to the side on front crawl, collecting objects from deeper water and perform push and glides with rotations.
Wave 4
Swimmers begin to refine all 4 strokes to swim Wales standard. We also begin teaching personal survival and sculling independently.
Wave 5
Swimmers begin swimming lengths and cover greater distances. All 4 strokes are completed to a swim Wales standard. Swimmers continue to develop the personal survival knowledge and begin performing front and back somersaults.
Wave 6&7
The final stages of the wave programme.
Swimmers are now covering greater distances and start swimming individual medleys (Butterfly Backstroke Breast stroke Front crawl).
Swimmers also learn some competitive skills such as tumble turns starts
Swimmers also start to learn different rescue techniques and increase their knowledge of water safety and personal survival.
